North Canberra Futsal Needs Venue Managers
We are looking for venue managers to run NCF venues for junior futsal competitions.
- The competitions are on Friday nights at Lyneham Netball Centre and Sundays at Lyneham Netball Centre, Daramalan College, Radford College & Gold Creek School
- Hours are variable, Friday nights, 4.30-9.30pm and Sundays there are several shifts between 8am and 8pm at the different locations
- The hourly rates are $18-$29 per hour depending on age, experience and position
The venue managers will report to the venue manager coordinator and will be responsible for ensuring venues are game ready and safe. Duties include:
- set up and pack down of futsal courts and front desk areas (manual lifting is required)
- point of contact for players, coaches and spectators
- preparation and checking of match cards
- provide a safe environment for all including on court maintenance, knowledge of evacuation procedures, unlocking and securing venues, assist referees and NCF committee members with any incidents on and off court
- provide first aid if sports trainers are not available
- retrieval of balls at half-time and full-time from Venue walls and ceilings (working at heights required)
- assist in ensuring that games are running on time including filling in as a referee if required
- regular monitoring of activities on and off courts and control entry and exit points
- other duties as directed consistent with the above
Successful applicants must have:
- Working with Vulnerable People registration/card
- First Aid Certificate (or willing to undertake course prior to season start)
Desirable skills for venue managers include:
- A current Drivers Licence as venue managers may need to travel to other venues
- Experience in venue or event management
- Knowledge of futsal competition rules or futsal refereeing experience
- Ability to work as part of a team and on your own

COERVER Coaching
North Canberra Futsal has teamed up again with COERVER Coaching to run a Futsal First Skills program over the coming season. The program is designed for first time futsal players aged 3-7 and will be held at Gold Creek School Gym on Sundays from 9.30-10.30am. For more information and to register check here.

Welcome to North Canberra Futsal season 2018/19
Team nominations are now open and will close on Friday September 7 or before if competitions fill quickly. Registration information including proposed game times and venues can be found here. There have been some changes to game times and venues for some competitions so please check carefully before nominating a team. A number of girls competitions have moved venues and the U13 Open Div 1 and U16 Open Div 1 competitions have changed game days and times. We have a new venue this year at Daramalan College which we hope will mean no teams miss out. Thanks to Daramalan College for their support this season allowing us to hire a great venue. NCF looks forward to another bumper season of futsal so get organising and nominate a team now.

Collect your Trophies and Medallions this Weekend
All teams whose games were washed out in last Sundays floods can come to Lyneham Netball Centre this weekend and collect their participation trophies or medallions while the grand finals are on. Collection times are Friday 5.30-8.30pm or Sunday 10.00am-5.00pm.
Futsal Game Cancellations

NCF Games are Back on this Weekend

Just a reminder that futsal is back on this weekend after the summer break. There have been some draw changes so please check your draws on the SportsTG web site to see if your game time or court has changed. There are only four more rounds left before Grand Finals for the U10 - U16 age groups. The non-competitive age groups U7 - U9 have four rounds left. All teams will receive participation trophies or medallions at the end of their games in round 12 (February 23-25). We look forward to seeing everyone back at futsal this weekend.

Futsal Coaching Certificate
Capital Football will be conducting a Futsal Certificate for all NCF futsal coaches. The course is designed to give you the basics needed to coach a futsal team. The course will be held at Dickson College Gym on Sunday 8 October from 9.30am – 1.00pm. The course will cost $75 which NCF will reimburse if you are coaching a team this season. Grand Final 2016/17
Disciplinary Issues
Just a reminder that any suspensions in the last weeks of the NCF season will carry over to next season.
The NCF Committee have been dealing with a number of disciplinary issues that have involved four week suspensions which will carry over to the 2017/18 season. At finals time it is even more important to remember that you are at childrens' games and it is not the World Cup. Let kids be kids and support them whether they win or lose.
Procedures to Determine the Winner of a Match
The rules to determine the winner of a finals game at NCF if the score is equal after normal time are:
Extra Time
In NCF Semi-finals where court time is limited, extra time will be three minute halves. In Grand-finals extra time will be five minute halves. If the scores are still equal after extra time then the game goes to penalty shoot out.
Kicks from the penalty mark
The referee chooses the goal at which the kicks will be taken then tosses a coin and the team whose captain wins the toss decides whether to take the first or the second kick. Both teams take three kicks and the kicks are taken alternately by the teams. If before both teams have taken three kicks, one has scored more goals than the other could score even if it were to complete its three kicks, no more kicks are taken. If, after both teams have taken three kicks, both have scored the same number of goals, or have not scored any goals, kicks continue to be taken in the same order until one team has scored a goal more than the other from the same number of kicks
Penalty shoot outs
Penalty shoot outs can be stressful for all so please talk to your players about the possibility that it may happen to determine the winner of a game. Remember to stay calm no matter what happens and congratulate the players for having got to the finals and for showing the courage to step up and take that penalty shot.
Games that were Cancelled on Friday 10 Feb 2017
As the temperature exceeded 41 degrees Celsius on Friday 10 Feb, the NCF Committee decided to cancel all games that were scheduled for that date. Options for rescheduling these games are being considered (coaches and managers will be informed of any updates as soon as they are available).

Semi-finals, Play Offs and Grand Finals
On the weekend of February 24-26, round 12, all teams will be involved in semi-finals or play offs (except those teams that came last in competitions with a bye).
The semi-finals format will be 1v4 and 2v3 with the winners of the semi-finals going through to a Grand Final at Lyneham Netball Centre on March 3 (Friday comps) or March 5 (Sunday comps). Play offs will be held for all other teams with 5v6, 7v8, 9v10 etc.
The semi-final and play off fixtures are not available until all regular season games are completed after round 11. There are currently no fixtures for round 12 in any competitions except for U12 Open Division 2 as that competition was played in a two pool format.
There are no semi-finals, play offs or grand finals for any non-competitive age groups. At the end of round 12 games all teams will be presented with participation trophies.
Rules for Borrowing Players
We have been checking match cards over the break and have noticed quite a few teams are borrowing players when they shouldn't be, particularly when they already have six players. The rules are:
- Only fully registered NCF futsal players are permitted to be borrowed players.
- Players can only be borrowed from a younger age group or from a lower division in the same age group.
- Players cannot be borrowed from another team in the same competition in which they are playing.
- A team who is borrowing players must have a minimum of three (3), and a maximum of five, of their own registered players playing in the match.
- Teams borrowing players may only play with a maximum of six (6) players, including the borrowed players, in that match. Hence, if a team has three of its own players, it may borrow up to three players for the match, but if it has five of its own players, it may only borrow one player for the match.
- A team is not permitted to borrow players if all their registered players are playing in the match.
- A player may be borrowed up to a total of four (4) times throughout an entire season.
- Borrowed players are not permitted to be used during finals series matches.
- Breaches of the above 'Borrowing of players' rules will result in a forfeit being awarded to the non-offending team.
Please remember you are at a children's game...
Unfortunately the NCF Committee have been dealing with quite a few incidents of bad behaviour from players, coaches and parents. We will be taking a particularly hard line on any incidents of bad behaviour from the sidelines.
We would ask that you remember that your behaviour is impacting on everyone around you. Parents need to be respectful, polite and positive at all times. We need positive role models for our children to show them how to be calm and happy with their performance. We need to teach them to accept the referee decisions, and the game results, regardless of what they feel or think.
We must remember that some referees are still learning and some will make mistakes and that it is not always easy for them to make quick decisions that everyone will agree on.
For the sake of everyone at NCF who wants to enjoy playing or watching futsal please remember you are at a game for children, not a game for adults. Relax and let our children play.

NCF has a new Committee
Thanks to all those people who attended the AGM in between the Coaches and Managers meetings.
The NCF Committee has some new faces which is always a good thing for the club. Many thanks and best wishes to the outgoing President Nunzio Rinaudo.
The committee has also appointed John Streat as the new Referee Administrator to look after the day to day needs of our referees. There are also some new faces among our venue managers who this season will be wearing red shirts.
New NCF Storage Space
While not everyone gets excited about storage containers, the NCF committee does.
NCF took delivery of a container at the Lyneham Netball Centre this month which means after five or more years committee members have been able to empty their garages of futsal equipment and store it on site. Many thanks to the ACT Netball for allowing NCF to use their site.
New NCF Logo
Last season the NCF ran a competition for a new logo. Some great designs were submitted and the NCF committee selected five design finalists. We asked players to vote on the logo they liked the best and they did.
Congratulations to Dennis Bagic for creating our new logo.
Dennis won a Canberra United jersey signed by Michelle Heyman and a gift card.
Welcome to the 2015/16 Season
Welcome to all our new and returning players, coaches and managers for the 2015/16 season. This year we have had registrations at an all time high with nearly 2000 players and 258 teams. Unfortunately we have had to turn teams and players away as there are not enough futsal courts to accommodate all those wanting to play. This has meant a lot of work for the volunteers on the NCF Committee so please appreciate the efforts that have gone into making futsal happen this season at North Canberra.

Respect for Referees
This year, like last year, we will be placing a lot of emphasis on RESPECT for REFEREES. Every year we lose referees from the game because they get tired of being abused. Please relax and enjoy watching the game and let the referees get on with their job. If you have any concerns about the way the referee is handling the game then please talk to the referees coordinator or committee member at the venue. Do not talk to the referee at the game. Remember referees want to enjoy the game the same way that players enjoy their game and they can make mistakes the same way as players make mistakes. Please don't abuse them for that.

Game Times and Locations
Draws are now available on Fox Sports Pulse.
Please let the NCF Secretary know if there are any problems with your team's fixtures. If you know you are not going to be able to make a game then please let us know early so that we can let all teams affected know.
With such a shortage of futsal courts it is unlikely that games will be able to be rescheduled.
Netball Centre Changes
The outdoor courts at Lyneham Netball Centre are being resurfaced and so will not be available for warm ups over the next few months. The area behind the Netball Centre is also being redeveloped for a beach volleyball centre. This means that the only areas available for warm ups are the asphalt outside or the grass fields across the road from the Netball Centre.
Please do not warm up inside the Netball Centre (as you will be asked to move). Teams should always be accompanied by an adult when crossing to the grass fields, and please be careful as the road past the netball centre has now been opened up and can become quite busy.
There is no pedestrian crossing directly opposite the Netball Centre (it is further west near the volleyball development).
UAE vs Qatar- Sunday 11 January

About Qatar
Two-time quarter-finalists Qatar secured relatively comfortable qualification for a fourth consecutive AFC Asian Cup from Group D. The 2011 hosts recorded a pair of high-scoring wins over Yemen as well as victories over Malaysia with a 1-0 defeat by Bahrain towards the start of the qualifying campaign the only negative.
Qatar first took part in the AFC Asian Cup in 1980, and after four consecutive group stage exits and a failed qualification campaign in 1996, they finally advanced to the knockout stage for the first time in 2000 in Lebanon. Having qualified as the second best third-place finisher after drawing all three games against Japan, Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan, Qatar eventually lost 3-1 to China.
Group stage exits followed in 2004 and 2007 before, on home soil in 2011, Qatar rose to the challenge and returned to the quarter-finals. They kicked off the tournament with a 2-0 defeat by Uzbekistan, but recovered to beat China and Kuwait. And even though a fairy tale semi-final appearance failed to materialise, their 3-2 defeat by eventual champions Japan in the last eight will live long in the memory.
Bruno Metsu’s side twice took the lead and, despite Japan being reduced to 10 men just after the hour mark, were pegged back on both occasions before losing to a 90th minute winner. Qatar were able to build on that success and progressed to the final round of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup with an unbeaten record alongside Iran.
But despite failing to make an impact on a group which contained Iran, Korea Republic and Uzbekistan, Coach Fahad Thani has been able to unify the side following a disappointing 2013 Gulf Cup campaign under predecessor Paulo Autori.
Asia Cup Lead-Up
Qatar have enjoyed a strong past couple of months with victories over AFC Asian Cup host nation Australia (1-0) and DPR Korea (3-1).
Qatar then headed to the 2014 Gulf Cup of Nations where they went through the group stage recording only draws. Matches against Saudi Arabia (1-1), Yemen (0-0) and Bahrain (0-0) enabled them to qualify for the semi-finals where they disposed of Oman 3-1. They then defeated Saudi Arabia 1-0 in the final to claim their third Gulf Cup title.
Qatar will hope that the inclusion of star midfielders Khalfan Ibrahim and Sebastian Soria will strengthen their side for their upcoming matches against Estonia, Oman and Indonesia then onto the Cup in Australia.
Coach
Dejamel Belmadi (Algeria) was installed as the Qatari coach in the lead up to the Final Draw following the nation's qualification for the 2015 tournament.
The former international took over from Fahad Thani, who moved into the Olympic squad coaching role. Belmadi was most recently the coach of Lekhwiya who he lead to back-to-back Qatar Stars League titles.

NCF "adopts" Qatar in the Asian Cup
10 local clubs have thrown their support behind the 2015 AFC Asian Cup by adopting a country for the January tournament. Most Canberrans will be cheering on the Socceroos throughout the tournament, but since they don't play any games locally the clubs decided that they wanted to get behind the other nations that are playing at Canberra Stadium.
Asian Cup ambassador Claire Falls randomly drew countries for each of the teams to adopt and North Canberra Futsal has drawn Qatar. Nunzio Rinaudo, President North Canberra Futsal, said:
"We're excited that the Asian Cup is coming to Canberra and we will support it as much as possible. The local football community is a passionate bunch, so we are looking forward to international games being played in Canberra. I am planning on attending a few games, but now that we have adopted Qatar I will make sure I attend their game against the UAE and encourage our players and families to get on board as well."
Futsal National Championships
5-9 January 2015, Sydney
Canberra’s Premier Futsal Club, Boomerangs FS, has been approached to participate as an ‘invitational club’ in the Futsal National Championships. These will be held in Sydney on 5-9 January 2015. Participation is subject to Capital Football approval; however discussions with them so far have been very positive.
The club has indicated to Football NSW and to Capital Football that it has the capacity to send teams in all age groups offered at the Championships. In line with this commitment, expressions of interest are being sought from players to participate at the Futsal Nationals, in the following age groups:
- Boys U12, U13, U14, U15, U16 and Youth (U19).
- Girl's U12,U14, U16 and Youth Women (U19).
Expressions of Interest
As the time frame for making arrangements (such as assembling teams, planning training sessions, ordering strips etc) is very short, expressions of interest to play at the Nationals must be emailed to Boomerangs FC as soon as possible. Please include your contact details and the name and date of birth of each player you wish to nominate.
Once expressions of interest have been collated an email will be sent to all players informing them of potential trials/training times and the venue for their age group.
The cost to participate in the Futsal Nationals as a Boomerangs player will be approximately $550 per player (this is pending final confirmation of entry fees and other costs). The participation fee will include the following:
- Training sessions
- Home and away playing strip
- Polo shirt, walkout shorts, backpack (with initials)
- Qualified coaches
- Team entry fees
- Travelling Physio
Please note that to provide maximum flexibility for families these costs do NOT include transport, food and accommodation for the championships period. Options for inexpensive accommodation are currently being sought, however families will be free to choose the travel and accommodation option that best suits their circumstances.

Hot Weather
As stated in the North Canberra Futsal HOT Weather Policy (refer Attachment D in the North Canberra Futsal - Competition Manual) it is recommended that all players drink water or a sports drink:
- at least 500 mls (two standard cups) 30 minutes before the game;
- at least one cup at half-time; and
- while sitting on the bench.
To keep cool:
- use damp towels;
- a spray bottle for instant cooling; and
- remove shin pads immediately after the game.
Coaches should also ensure that they do not “over-play” players - if any player is showing signs of heat distress they should be substituted as soon as possible.
